Clarence Edward "Shakey"  Paugh Jr.
Clarence Edward “Shakey” Paugh, Jr., age 87 of Current Street, Grafton, WV passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015 surrounded by his family.
He was born in Grafton on August 1, 1927, the son of the late Clarence Edward Paugh, Sr. and Evelyn Madolia (Mayo) Paugh.

He is survived by one daughter, Julie Peters of Morgantown; one son, Scott Paugh and wife, Susan of Martinsburg, WV; four grandchildren, Jacob Peters and Sarah Peters of Grafton and Abigail and Charlie Paugh of Martinsburg; one sister, Virginia “Ginny” Wolfe and husband, Wesley of Tunnelton; also survived by four nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife if 51 years, Janet Claire (Thayer) Paugh and one sister, Joan Snyder.

Shakey was employed for 45 years with the B&O Railroad-Chessie System- CSX Transportation, having started work at age 15. He served his country in the Navy for two years during World War II aboard the USS Cony, a Fletcher-class destroyer. As recently as 2010, he received a China War Memorial Medal from the Chinese Defense Mission for his service in the Chinese Theater during World War II.
He performed over 3,000 military funerals with the Taylor County Honor Guard, and several years on the Board of Directors of the Mothers’ Day Shrine. He played the upright bass in several local and regional bands over the last 60 years, including The Coachmen, The Rythymaires, and The Noteables. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Taylor County Shrine Club; past president of the Taylor County Little League; a member of the VFW, an organization with whom he had fingerprinted hundreds of Taylor County School students for Project ID. He also was an organizer of the Grafton Swim Club and a member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church.

At Mr. Paugh’s request, he will be cremated and there will be no funeral home visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
