Obituary for Dr. Barbara Adeline Drainer

Dr. Barbara  Adeline  Drainer
Dr. Barbara Adeline Drainer, of N. Center Street, Ormond Beach, FL passed away Monday, January 27, 2014. She was born November 8, 1915 in Flemington, WV. Her parents were the late George Ward Drainer and Georgia (Curry) Drainer of Pruntytown, WV. Dr. Drainer attended Pruntytown Elementary , graduated from Grafton High School with the Class of 1933, Fairmont State, and Columbia University in New York, City where she received her Masters and Doctorate in Art Education.

Barbara taught in Pruntytown Elementary, Grafton High, Florida State University with the honor of Professor Emeritus from West Virginia University.
Barbara was a member of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution, Mayflower Descendants, American Association of University Women, and WVU Art Association.

Surviving family members include two sisters-in-law Wilma DeMoss Drainer of Plantation, FL and Dorothy Drainer Wildey of Lancaster, PA; three nieces, Jenny Drainer of Morgantown, WV, JoAnn Helbig of Akron, OH, and Jill Drainer of Plantation, FL; two nephews, Charles “Chuck” Drainer of Morgantown, WV, and William “Bill” Drainer of Plantation, FL.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Nathan “Duke” Drainer, former postmaster in Grafton, George Ward Drainer, Jr. of Aurora, WV, former teacher at Clearwater High School in Clearwater, FL, and Dr. William Curry Drainer, former Superintendent of Schools in Broward County, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; also sister-in-law, Jean Drainer of Aurora, WV, formerly of Clearwater, FL.

Barbara was loved by everyone and she loved her family. The Coquina Center lovingly took care of her in Ormond Beach, FL for fifteen years. Barbara retired from WVU after 30 years of teaching Art Education and moved to Daytona Beach, FL.

There will be a graveside memorial service at a later date. Burial will be at the Harmony Grove Cemetery in Grafton, WV. Thank you to Donald G. Ford Funeral Home for all your help.
A very special person in Aunt Barb’s life was Jill Drainer’s husband, Brian Bailey.
