Obituary for James Russell Fry

James Russell  Fry
James R. Fry, age 72 George Washington Hwy., Grafton, WV passed away Monday, October 30, 2017 at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV.
He was born March 9, 1945 in New Martinsville, WV, a son of the late Russell S. Fry and Carolina (Whitsett) Fry Harper.

He is survived by one nephew, Chris Frye of the Bahamas and one cousin, Susan Jones of Marion County.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Nancy Jean Fry and one brother, Melvin Fry.

Jim was in the 82nd Airborne Division of the Army during the Vietnam War from 1967-1969 where he earned the Purple Heart and Bronze star Medals.

He worked as a machinist in OH and was co-owner of the Fry-Harper Skate Company in Grafton.
He was a member of the Blueville Church of Christ, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 7048, Vietnam Veterans Post 874, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
He enjoyed collecting and also reuniting with his 82nd Airborne brotherhood. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying kayaking, rock climbing, scuba diving, snow skiing, and cycling.

The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Friday, November 3, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.
Funeral services will follow at the funeral home with Doug Stevens officiating.
Military services will be conducted by the Taylor County Honor Guard and the Army National Guard from Kingwood at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at the Riverview Cemetery in Williamstown, WV.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made in Jim’s memory to the Blueville Church of Christ Food Pantry 310 Victory Ave., Grafton, WV 26354.
