Bill Lee Parsons, age 87 of Sheffield Lake, OH passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019 in Westlake, OH.
He was born June 24, 1932 in Parsons, WV a son of the late Homer M. and Nellie (Phillips) Parsons.
He is survived by his wife of almost 49 years Jean C. (Galla) Conway Parsons, also survived by three sons: and one daughter; Wally and wife Paula, Esom Hills, GA., Daughter, Susan Williams and husband Marlow, Rockmart, GA. Jeff Conway and wife Tammy, Olive Branch, MS., Steve Conway and wife Kathy of Sheffield Village, Ohio; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren: several nephews and nieces.
Bill worked in maintenance for J & L Steel and director of Alpine Ski Area.
He is preceded in death by five brothers; Sylvester, Homer, Carl, Ed, and Russell; six sisters; Collen Knotts, Verna R. Murphy,, Velma Knotts, Wynona J. Lowman, Genevieve Parsons and Kathleen Roberts. Bill was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Bill attended the Southside Baptist Church in Cedartown, GA. He was a pilot, enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating, he was a generous soul who helped everyone he could and was a member of the EMBC.
He joined the Army in May, 1950 serving as rank of Corporal in the Korean War, receiving a Purple Heart, Bronze Star with V for Valor, Combat Infantry Badge- Par7, Korean Svc Medal w/4 Bz Svc Stars, U Nations Svc Medal and A Commendation Ribbon with metal Pendant and several other medals. He started the 1st Marine Patrol at Lake Erie.
The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home on Sunday, August 25th from 4:00 -8:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour on Monday.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2019 with Pastor Garry Whitescarver officiating.
Interment will follow at the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the Taylor County Honor Guard and the WV Army Honor Guard from Camp Dawson.
