Obituary for Helen L Thorn (Lucas)

Helen L. (Lucas) Thorn, age 88 of Lucas Road, Grafton, WV passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at her residence.
She was born July 9, 1926 in Grafton the daughter of the late Charles E. “Percy” Lucas and Argyle (Dixon) Lucas.
Her husband of 28 years was the late William W. Thorn, who passed away December 6, 2010 after

She is survived by sister-in-law, Becky Lucas of Grafton; two nephews, John C. Lucas and wife, Brenda and William B. Lucas and wife Tammie, all of Grafton; great nephews and nieces, Kati M. Epperley and husband, Ben of Grafton, Jared C. Lucas of Grafton, Cody B. Lucas of Ft. Riley, Kansas, and Ethan W. Lucas of Grafton; one great-great niece, Jaycee B. Epperley of Grafton; four step-children, William B. Thorn and wife Sandy, of Bridgeport, David A. Thorn and wife Judy, of Fairmont, Marilyn K. Newlon and husband Jerry, of Moatsville, and Rodney L. Thorn of Virginia Beach, VA; step-grandchildren, Laura (Thorn) Weaver and husband Larry, of Grafton, Lisa (Thorn) Braham of Louisiana, Cheryl (Thorn) Corder and husband Todd, of Fairmont, Erin (Poe) Devart and husband Doug, of Grafton, Jason and Brandon Thorn of Virginia Beach, VA, Sam and Mary Newlon, and Josh Newlon and Daisy; nine step great-grandchildren, Kelly Weaver Jones, Katlyn and Marcie Corder, Leah Devart, Brandon Thorn, Jr. Hunter, Emili, Jemma, and Katie Newlon; and one step great-great-granddaughter, Braelynn Jones.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles W. “Charlie Bill” Lucas and James E. Lucas and one step great grandchild, Kylee Braham.

Helen graduated from Grafton High School with the Class of 1943. She worked for the FBI in Washington, DC and then as a secretary for the B&O Railroad in Grafton where she retired with more than 30 years of service.
She was a life long member of the Haymond United Methodist Church, where she sang in the church choir, and also a member of the Haymond Girls, and Business Girls.

The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Thursday, August 21st from 3:00-8:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral on Friday.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home onFriday, August 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Sue Lowther officiating.
Interment will follow at the Haymond Cemetery.
