Reverend Richard A. “Dick” McDonald passed away comfortably surrounded by family in Bridgeport, WV, on May 6th at the age of 74.

He was born on October 28, 1941, the son of the late Charles William McDonald and Freda (Camp) McDonald. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Roanne (Parsons) McDonald of Bridgeport; son, Randy, and wife Marla of Bridgeport; daughter, Rachel and husband Keith Tucker of Salem and daughter Allyson and husband Bobby DeLaney of Fairmont, WV; six grandchildren, Gracen McDonald of Bridgeport, MaKatlyn and Jackson Tucker of Salem, Kenna Kaden, and Kambree DeLaney of Fairmont.
In addition to his immediate family, Dick is survived by three brothers and one sister. Robert McDonald and wife Judy of Florida, Terry McDonald and wife Beverly of Bridgeport, Reverend Charles “Chuck” McDonald and wife Rosemary of Bridgeport, Donna Sharps and the late William “Bill” Sharps of Bridgeport.

Dick was a graduate of Grafton High School with the Class of 1959. He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Boxer, and later entered Moody Bible Institute, where he met Roanne. Returning to West Virginia, he pursued an additional degree from Fairmont State College while beginning his career at Stuart-McMunn Company. He worked at Stuart-McMunn Company for more than 50 years, the majority of which he served as Vice-President of Construction.

As an ordained American Baptist Minister, Dick pastored many Baptist churches in the local area for over 50 years to include: Middleville, Summit Park, Broad Run, Flemington, Union, and East Clarksburg. He retired in December 2015, due to his health, from Beulah Baptist Church in Pruntytown, where he preached for 31 years. Dick was honored to receive the Ward W. Hibbs Ministerial Award in 2012, which recognized distinguished pastoral services in WV.

Dick loved the game of golf and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and WVU. He was active in spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home (US Rt. 50 West) in Grafton on Monday, May 9th from 5:00- 9:00 p.m. On Tuesday, May 10th from 1:00 -8:00 p.m. and from 9:30 until the funeral hour on Wednesday.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 11th at 10:30 a.m. with Dr. James Lutz officiating.
Interment will follow at the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the Taylor County Honor Guard and the Navy Military Honor Guard.
