Obituary for Walter Lee Holmes

Walter Lee Holmes, age 87 of Grafton Road, Independence, WV passed away Tuesday,
October 13, 2015 at his residence.
He was born December 7, 1927 in Gladesville, WV a son of the late Clarence Lee and Maude Mae (Hill) Holmes.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Betty O. (Stevens) Holmes; two daughters, Jean F. Miller and husband Dale, of Independence and Wilma Lee Holmes of Butler, PA; five grandchildren, Jeffrey D. Miller of Westover, Robert S. Miller Sr. of Independence, Jason L. Miller and wife Amie, of Independence, Rebekah J. Rowe and husband Kevin, of Fairmont, and David J. Miller and wife Danielle, also of Independence; eight great-grandchildren, Katelyn Tenney, Robert Miller Jr., Christian Miller, Braden Miller, Cody Miller, Ella Miller, Guerin Rowe, and Carter Miller; one great-great- granddaughter, Abigail; two brothers, Lestor Holmes and wife Wilma, of Grafton and Charles Holmes and wife Ruth, of Pentress, WV; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Lillian Brown, Mildred Matthew, Mary Jones, and Doris Snyder; and three brothers, James Holmes, William “Bud” Holmes, and Millard Holmes.

Walter worked cutting timber and for Greer Industries of Morgantown as a welder.
He was a member of the N.R.A. and a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Independence.
He enjoyed his family and hunting.

The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Thursday, October 15th from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour on Friday
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, October 16, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Ronald G. Ford officiating.
Interment will follow at the Matthews Cemetery in Independence.
