Robert Glenn   McCartney
Robert Glenn McCartney, age 92 of Grafton, WV (Knottsville Community), went home to be his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 27, 2015. He passed away at the Grafton City Hospital.

He was born October 19, 1922 the son of the late Wesley C. McCartney and Anna Bertha (Custer) McCartney. Their residence was 35 Lincoln Street.

He is survived by two loving daughters and their families. Kay Ellen Toth and husband Frank, along with their children Krista Kay Toth and fiance’, Eli Bresock of Fairmont, WV, Cole Alan Toth of Pittsburgh, PA, and Kara Layne Toth at home in Grafton. Jo Anna Pratt and husband, Mike along with their daughter, Lacy Jo Pratt of Grafton. He is also survived by one sister, Ruth V. (McCartney) Breedlove and husband Walter R. “Bud” Breedlove of Grafton. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. McCartney was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Ruth E. (Bunner) McCartney, who passed away June 5, 2009. Also preceding him in death was an infant son Robert Glenn McCartney Jr., 1957.

His early years were spent at the East End Elementary Grade School and at the Grafton High School, which at that time was located on Washington Street, Grafton. He graduated from Grafton High School after it moved to its’ present location on Riverside Drive in 1941. This was the first class to attend and graduate from the new school. While in high school he was involved in and held various offices in many different organizations. After graduation he attended Potomac State College in Keyser, WV from 1941-1943. He also attended West Virginia University in Morgantown from 1945-1946. He also completed a correspondence course in insurance writing.

During his years he was employed by the B&O, B&O-C&O, and CSX Railroads until his retirement in 1982 as a switch tender and yard foreman with 38 years of service. He held memberships as a lifetime member of the BRT Union and United Transportation Union where he served 15 years as secretary/treasurer.

Mr. McCartney has been a member in the Grand Lodge of West Virginia AF & AM Grand Lodge #15, Grafton for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star Naomi Chapter #12 Grafton, with 50 years membership.

He was a Methodist by faith. He held membership in the Andrews Methodist Church which later became the Church of the Good Shepherd after uniting with the West Main St. Methodist Church, St. Paul’s Methodist Church, and the St. John’s Methodist Church, all of Grafton.

His hobbies included gardening and wood working. Putting his wood working hobby to use he completely built his and his wife’s dream house which he resided in until he became a patient in the Skilled Nursing Care Unit of the Grafton City Hospital.

Robert was loved by many and will be missed by all.

The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Friday, August 28th from 4:00 -8:00 p.m. and from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour on Saturday.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2015 with Pastor Bert Coffman officiating.
Interment will follow at the Woodsdale Memorial Park Cemetery in Grafton.
Graveside Masonic service will be conducted by the Grafton Lodge #15 AF & AM.
