Obituary for James Marvin Scranage

James Marvin Scranage
The family of Marvin Scranage mourns his passing, which occurred at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 21st at United Hospital Center. He died of kidney failure after a long battle with diabetes. Marvin was born January 19, 1937. He graduated from Grafton High School with the Class of 1955. He retired from the Grafton corrugated paper manufacturing plant with 43 years of service and was a veteran of the US Army from 1959-1961, where he proudly served as a cook.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Ethel Mae (McDonald) and Kenneth Ward Scranage, and one brother, Ronald L. Scranage. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Wanda Lea (Prunty) and three children, Yolanda Kirchartz Sowards and husband Jim, Sonja Radcliff and husband Carl, and Jason Scranage and wife Danielle; 7 grandchildren, Jenna Kirchartz, Josh Radcliff, Adam Radcliff, Noell Khrino, Gabriel James Radcliff, Isaac Khrino and Haedyn Mae Scranage, who were the joy of his life; three Great Grandchildren, Jeremiah Radcliff, Jarin Radcliff and Vivian Radcliff; two brothers, Ward Scranage and Charles Scranage and wife, Dora; one sister, Irene Morgan; and also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was a devout Christian man who passed his faith onto his children, and he attended the Fairmont Free Methodist Church in Fairmont. Marvin was an avid outdoorsman and hunter, who instilled the love of nature and respect for sportsmanship into his children and nephews. He was an artist and a master small engine mechanic. He was known by many as always the first in line to help a stranger in need.

The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Thursday,
April 23rd from 2:00-8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the Fairmont Free Methodist Church on Morgantown Avenue on Friday, April 24, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Carl E. Radcliff officiating.
Interment will follow at the Harmony Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Scranage will lie in state at the church from 12:00 p.m. until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m.
