Obituary for Hazel Elizabeth Dyer (Sinsel)

Hazel E. (Sinsel) Dyer, age 98 of Bridgeport, WV passed away Sunday, February 15, 2015 at the Meadowview Mannor.
She was born June 17, 1916 in Taylor County, WV a daughter of the late Grant U. Sinsel and Sarah Alice (Williamson) Sinsel.

Her husband was the late Arthur B. Dyer who preceded her in death January 8, 1989.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Charles (Georgia) Bell of Connellsville, PA; two sisters-in-law, Frances Sinsel of Flemington and Elizabeth Bowman of Grafton; and the following nieces and nephews, Charles Keener, Paul Sinsel, Gary Sinsel, Robert Sinsel, Sandra Sinsel, Pat Saltis, Larry Reed, James Reed, Gregory Reed, Thomas Samples, Jerry Latta, and Doug Latta.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Pauline S. Robinson, Rita L. Reed, Helen V. Samples, and Mildred Latta; five brothers, Carl, Chester, Junior, Guy, and Roy Lee, who died in infancy.

Mrs. Dyer was a graduate of Grafton High School with the Class of 1935, Davis Memorial School of Nursing, Elkins, WV, and a graduate of Dayton University, Dayton, OH. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees – Chapter 1579. She also retired from the Federal Government in 1976 after working many years as a nurse in VA Hospitals.

She was the first recipient of the Florence Nightingale Award from Fairmont State College and
Mrs. Dyer created the Hazel E. Dyer Nursing Scholarship Fund for Taylor and Harrison County students.
She was a member of the Bridgeport Seniors Citizens and a member of the Golden Flyers of the University of Dayton and attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Stonewood.

The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Thursday, February 19th from 11:00 -1:00.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, February 19, 2015 with Pastor Richard Settles officiating.
Interment will follow at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Philippi, WV
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made to a charity or church of one’s choice in Hazel E. Dyer’s name.
