Elizabeth “Polly” (Davis) Mehlinger, age 83 of Knottsville Community, Grafton, WV passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at the Beulahland Assisted Living Facility.
She was born August 6, 1930 in Welch, WV a daughter of the late William Paul Davis and Elizabeth (Harter) Davis Spencer.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Kenneth C. “Mel” Mehlinger; two sons, Gregory Charles Mehlinger of Waianae, HI and Curtis Allen Mehlinger of Wilson Ridge Community, Grafton; two nieces, Julie McDargh Legler and husband, Rob of Bethel Park, PA and Susan McDargh Deiseroth and husband, Bob of Hickory, PA.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Thomas J. Spencer and one sister, Annis Lee McDargh.

Polly was a graduate of Grafton High School with the class of 1948 then graduated from WVU School of Nursing through Mon General Hospital in 1952. She held a Registered Nurse License and worked in four different states including Florida, Nevada, Texas, and West Virginia. She also nursed overseas in Paris, France and Okinawa, Japan. While working in the 249th Army Hospital in Tokyo, Japan she was awarded an Accommodation for her work when the hospital was receiving wounded GI’s from M.A.S.H. units out of Vietnam during that war. She had two tours here at Grafton City Hospital with her last from 1985 until she retired in 1988.

Polly enjoyed her family and horseback riding.

The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton Thursday, August 7th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour on Friday, August 8, 2014.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Bert Coffman officiating.
Interment will follow at the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown.
