Obituary for Harold Paul "Sonny" Rutherford

Harold Paul "Sonny" Rutherford
Harold Paul “Sunny” Rutherford, age 75 of Red Maple Drive, Bridgeport, WV passed away peacefully Sunday, July 13, 2014 at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport after a valiant battle against Lou Gehrig’s Desease (ALS).
He was born on May 31, 1939 in Grafton, WV and is the son of Harold Whitescarver Rutherford (07/29/1909 – 06/01/1946) and Zelma “Katherine” (Rowe) Rutherford (09/01/1915 – 11/03/1973). He married the love of his life, Sonya Lee (Nunn) Rutherford on Oct. 20, 1962 and they were able to celebrate their 50th Anniversary together with family in 2012. He is survived by his wife and children: Philip Brian and his wife Priscilla (Scott); Stephen Gregory; and Rebecca Renee and her husband John A. Post; 6 grandchildren: Jonathan, Rachel, & Sarah (Philip & Priscilla (Scott) Rutherford); Rhianan & Page “Dante” (Stephen Rutherford); and Dustin (Rebecca & John A. Post) and 4 great grandchildren: Austyn and Abel (Rhianan Rutherford); Brock and Emmy Kate (Dustin & April (White) Post). Harold is also survived by his siblings: Betty Lee Shoemaker, Juanita “Joan” Melton, Ada Katherine Garner, Jean Elaine Foglesong, Carl Armour Rutherford, Nathan Robert Rutherford, and Carol Sue Kinneer. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Harold was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents and siblings: Marie Imogene, James Ray, Mary Jane, and Nancy Rosella
Harold retired from AT&T after 30 years of service as Draftsman / Designer of Electrical Units. Harold’s greatest joy in life was helping others with his time, talents, and abilities. He enjoyed good, clean, witty humor and had what has been referred to as “The Rutherford Sense of Humor”. He accepted Christ into his heart at the age of 12 with his grandpa Rowe leading him in prayer and took an active roll along with his wife, in teaching their children, not only by reading and teaching, but also by living each day in accordance to God’s Word. A true, wise, genuine, and deeply adored soul is now honoring and celebrating our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ face to face. Harold wishes that we celebrate his life, for this is not “good–bye”, but rather, “until we meet again” for all who believe. He truly is “Fine and Dandy”.
The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour on Wednesday.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Paul Boyles officiating.
At Mr. Rutherford’s request, he will then be cremated.
