Obituary for Clarence Linville "Pete" Hicks

Clarence Linville  "Pete"  Hicks
Clarence L. “Pete” Hicks, age 83 of the Haymond Community in Grafton, WV passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2014. He was born October 13, 1930 in Beckley, WV. A son of the late Clarence T. Hicks and Opal (Everman) Hicks.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, James Thomas Hicks and one sister, Barbara Smawley.
Pete was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Laura F. (Henderson) Hicks; one son Matthew E. Hicks of Greenville, SC; one daughter Marsha L. Malone and husband Robert W. of Grafton; one granddaughter Jessica M. Malone; and also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He retired from AT & T and Western Electric with 30 years of service and was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers. After graduating from East Bank High School in 1948, he served 4 years in the United States Army in Germany. While serving in the US Army, he boxed at the Welter Weight Division. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan since he was nine years old. Pete also assisted in the communication rewiring after the devastating flood at Buffalo Creek in 1972.

The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Sunday, March 30th from 4:00-8:00 p. m. and from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour on Monday.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, March 31, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Sue Lowther officiating.
Interment will follow at the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the Taylor County Honor Guard and the WV Army National Guard of Kingwood.
