Obituary for Virginia Ruth Work (Brown)
Virginia Ruth (Brown) Work, age 99 of Haymond Road, Grafton, WV passed away Thursday, March 19, 2020 at the home of Donna and Lonnie Mayle.
She was born on October 11, 1920 in Independence, WV a daughter of the late Jay and Clara (Kisner) Brown.
She is survived by one daughter, Judith A. Schill of Hudson, OH and one son, James J. Work (Nancy) of Grafton, WV; six grandchildren, Michael Schill (Helena) of Tremedal, Spain, Cathy Hartman (Sal) of Hudson, OH, Penny Older of Saco, ME, James A. Work (Shelly) of Fairmont, Heather Chambers, of Grafton, Justin A. Work (Amanda) of Winner, SD; fourteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, James Ormand Work who passed away on June 18, 2013 and two brothers, Gilbert Brown and Charles Brown.
She worked as a secretary for the Preston County B.O.E. at Arthurdale, WV and was a member of the First Christian Church in Grafton.
Virginia enjoyed her family, was a small business owner, the former Mayor of the City of Reedsville, WV, and loved traveling, quilting and ceramics.
At the family’s request, there will be no funeral home visitation and there will be a private graveside service at the Woodsdale Memorial Park Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date.
