Obituary for Roy Maxie Rutherford

Roy Maxie “Sparky” Rutherford, age 86 of White Oaks Assisted Living in Bridgeport, WV (formerly of Crites Road, Grafton) WV passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport.
He was born April 6, 1933 in Grafton, WV a son of the late James Carl and Hazel Verl (Wiseman) Rutherford.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathy E. Babcock (Ronald) of Wayne, OH and Tammy J. Colebank ( Roger) of Export, PA; three grandchildren, Amanda and husband John, Stephanie and husband Joe, and Brett Rush; two great-grandsons, Dakota and Kolton; one great-granddaughter Madison; four brothers, Jack, Pete, Bob, and Victor Rutherford; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen (Linn) Rutherford, who passed away January 10, 2013; one son, Roy Michael; one daughter, Robin Sue; and two sisters, Madeline Akers and Dorothy McWilliams.

Roy served in the US Army from 1953-1955. He worked at the Hazel Atlas Glass Company in Grafton and the Anchor Hocking Glass Company in Clarksburg.

He loved his wife Mary, and enjoyed his family, gardening, hunting, and long walks.

The family would like to thank the White Oaks Assisted Living in Bridgeport for his great care.

The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Friday, January 10th from 3:00-8:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour on Saturday.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 the funeral home on Saturday, January 11, 2020 with Pastor Garry Whitescarver officiating.
Interment will follow at the Woodsdale Memorial Park in Grafton.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the Taylor County Color Guard and the WV National Guard Honor Guard of Kingwood.
