Obituary for Melvin Lee Currey

Melvin Lee Currey, age 80 of Shelby Run Road, Grafton, WV passed away Friday, September 6, 2019 surrounded by his family.
He was born October 5, 1938 in Grafton (McGee Community), WV a son of the late Paul Boyd Currey and Naomi (Lovejoy) Currey.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Sandy H. (Petersen) Currey; two sons, Mark A. Currey and wife Karel of Grafton and Chad L. Currey and wife Wendy, of Morgantown, WV; one daughter, Kristal K. Sumpter and husband Lee of Charlottesville, VA; eight grandchildren, Bobby Lee Stutler, Ashlea Stutler Horne and husband Joel, Holly Stutler Leon and husband Josh, Kendal Lynn Currey, Koa James Silvers, Eli Cain Sumpter, Anna Elizabeth Sumpter, and Isaac Cain Sumpter; two great-grandchildren, Etta and Benny Horne; one son-in-law, Bob Stutler of Middleville Community; three sisters, Maxine Currey of Cocoa, FL, Vonda Currey Fancher, Norfolk, VA, Nancy Currey Murphy of Proctor, WV; two sisters-in-law, Sally Petersen Hamilton and husband Jim and Penny Petersen Morrison all of Fairmont, WV; two brothers-in-law, Rodney Petersen and wife Brenda of Washington, NC and Paul Alexander of Grafton; and also survived by many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by one daughter, Donetta Lea Currey Stutler; one sister, Melva Jean Currey Alexander; and two brothers-in-law, Tom Murphy and Donnie Morrison.

Melvin graduated from Grafton High School with the Class of 1956. He worked for the Taylor County Division of Highways, was a salesman for the Elmac Corporation and then was part owner of Repair King in Shinnston, WV.
He was a member of the Harmony Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed his family, farming, and his dog, “Star”.

There will be a gathering of family and friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Friday, September 13, 2019 from 4:00-6:00 p.m.
A memorial service will follow with Pastor Thomas P. Horne officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family wished memorial donations may be made in Melvin’s memory to the Pruntytown United Methodist Church C/O Jo Carder Rt. 2 box 213-B Grafton, WV 26354.
