Obituary for Kay L. Clawson (Kunst)

Kay L. (Kunst) Clawson passed away April 24, 2021, at her home in Naples, Florida. She was born the 29th of October 1949 in Weston, West Virginia, to Frank and Etha Kunst. Kay has one living sister, Annette Ireland and a deceased brother Clyde Kunst. She is survived by her husband Joseph R. Clawson and children Elizabeth A. Clawson Gerhardt, Joseph R. Clawson,Jr., Heather L. Clyde, and Shug Clawson. Kay's entire adult career was dedicated to the field of education. She taught elementary education in Grafton and higher education at Fairmont and West Liberty Universities. She was asked to evaluate other colleges and universities for the North Central Association of Colleges. Kay was the faculty representative for the honors society at West Liberty University. When Kay retired on December 12th, 2012, she was the Director of Graduate Education and a full professor. Kay for over 30 years has been a member of Delta Kappa Gamma International, an all-women’s international education society. During her tenure as a member she held almost all positions up to and including President of the West Virginia State and multiple international offices, including her present office as Chair of the DKG International Educators Foundation. Kay had a deep love for the arts, theater, music, museums, and art. She had an unending love for her family, colleagues, and life. Kay will long be remembered and deeply missed. A graveside service will be held at the Woodsdale Memorial Park Cemetery in Grafton on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with Ray Shaw officiating.
