Obituary for JoAnn Woodyard (Leach)

JoAnn (Leach) Woodyard-Poe, age 88 of Lakeview Drive, Grafton, WV passed away Friday, September 20, 2019 at the Mon General Hospital in Morgantown, WV.
She was born July 29, 1931 in Grafton, WV a daughter of the late Herbert Dane “Dana” Leach and Lula Caroline (Robinson) Leach.

She is survived by two daughters, Lu Ann Woodyard and Cynthia ”Cindy” Woodyard, both of Grafton; one grandson, William W. Woodyard of Morgantown; one daughter-in-law, Ann Marie Woodyard Mayle; five step children, Benjamin III, Daniel, Mark, and Timothy Poe and Rebecca “Becky” Branson; sixteen step- grandchildren; and thirty-two step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard William Woodyard and her second husband, Benjamin Lewis Poe, Jr.; and one son, William D. “Woody” Woodyard.
She graduated from Grafton High School with the class of 1949. After graduation she worked in the office at Hazel Atlas Glass Company in Fetterman, WV. From there she began her career as a telephone operator with the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company for several years. Then, JoAnn Leach married Howard William “Bill” Woodyard in 1951. They were married for thirty-nine years.
In 1977, after raising their three children, JoAnn started her career in retail with Archdeacon’s in Grafton. She worked there until 1983. At the age of 54, JoAnn and Edie Fitzwater started their business named Murrays in the same location as Archdeacon’s. Murrays operated until the early 90s.
JoAnn enjoyed her family, grandchildren, “The Golden Girls” Delores Hall and Edie Fitzwater.
She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Grafton.

The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Monday,
September 23rd from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour on Tuesday.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Lynn Cartwright officiating.
Interment will follow at the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown.
