Obituary for Jerry L. Latta

Jerry L. Latta, age 63 of Blueville Drive, Grafton, WV passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV after a lengthy illness. He was born February 23, 1955 in Grafton, WV, the son of the late H. Kenneth Latta and late Mildred Mae (Sinsel) Latta.
Jerry is survived by one brother, Douglas K. Latta and his wife, Angela Kay Brutto Latta of Grafton, WV and one nephew, Louis “Jay” Latta also of Grafton, WV.
Jerry was a proud member of the Grafton High School Class of 1973, where was an honor student that excelled academically. He attended Fairmont State University then moved through the ranks with the J.C. Penney Corporation, starting as a stock clerk at the downtown Grafton location. Jerry later worked for the J.C. Penney Corporation in Morgantown, Huntington and Charleston, West Virginia locations as an Operations Manager, ending his career at the Dayton Ohio store. His career was cut short by illness and he returned to Grafton to help care for his aging mother. Jerry had a thirst for knowledge, which lead him later to enroll in West Virginia University to further his education. He also enjoyed traveling, WVU sports, The Pittsburgh Steelers, reading and watching movies. He was a Methodist by faith.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and one brother, Mark E. Latta in 1978.
Jerry was able to continue living at home thanks to the caring and compassionate staff at the Taylor County Senior Citizens Center, with special thanks to Tammy Mayle and her family, Stephanie White and Dakota Robinson, also the staff of Right at Home Health Care, with special thanks to Christine Devlin, Skylar Eddy and Mickayla Blackburn, also WVU Medicine Home Health staff, with a special thanks to Cindy Dickey and Jenny Nestor, as well as Dr. David Bender and the staff at the Tygart Valley Total Health Care Clinic at Grafton City Hospital, the Taylor County Emergency Squad, the Grafton Fire Department and Bob Baker and his family.
There will be no funeral home visitation. At Jerry’s request, he will be cremated, and a graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 1:00 at Woodsdale Memorial Park with Pastor David Freeman presiding.
