Hazel Joan J ( Gawthrop) Hardesty, 88 of Newark Ohio passed away peacefully Thursday May 14, 2020 at Licking Memorial Hospital (Hospice) with her daughter by her side.
She was born April 13, 1932 in Taylor County, Grafton West Virginia to the daughter of the late Garland G. and Susie (Hustead) Gawthrop.
She graduated in 1950 from Grafton High School and also worked at a Dentist’s office in Grafton.
She moved to Ohio where she was a homemaker and had three children, worked at the local hospital, and got a job at Larry’s Drug Store where she worked for many years and then went to work at Northside Pharmacy in Zanesville, Ohio where she retired and moved back to Newark, Ohio to be closer to her daughters.
She loved cooking and watching cooking shows on TV. loved reading Amish books and getting together with friends at Sharon Glyn Senior Apartments where she lived for 20+ years.
She is survived by one son and wife Charles (Chuck) and (Sue) Patterson, Bangor, Maine: one daughter and son-in-law Brenda and (Richard) Levingston of Newark, Ohio; one brother and sister-in-law Robert (Bob) and Camilla Gawthrop of Grafton; one sister Patty Boyles of Clarksburg; eight grandchildren and one step-granddaughter, 16 great-grandchildren, three step-great grandchildren and two great-great- grandson’s.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters; Eva curry and Alice Jean McVicker and one daughter, Pamela Kay VanSickle.
The family will have a private graveside on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at the Harmony Grove Cemetery in Grafton.
