Obituary for Dorothy Ellen "Dot" McWilliams (Rutherford)

Dorothy Ellen “Dot” (Rutherford) McWilliams, age 88 of Long Street, Grafton, WV passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport after a prolonged illness.
She was born March 17, 1931 in Grafton, WV a daughter of the late James Carl and Hazel Verl (Wiseman) Rutherford.

She is survived by three children, Kathy M. Westfall, Tommy Lee McWilliams, and Cindy Beth McWilliams and fiance’ Bill Jackson, all of Grafton; five grandchildren, Katie Morgan of Edinburgh, Scotland, Brian Bolyard of Newport News, VA, Kimberly Murray of Grafton, Amy Williams of Morgantown and David Westfall of Grafton; eight great-grandchildren, William Smallwood, Nicholas Workman, Jackson and Allison Williams, Emily and Patrick Murray, Jeremiah Knotts, and Logan Westfall; her siblings and spouses, Roy Rutherford, Jack (Mary) Rutherford, Victor (Orvie) Rutherford, Clarence (Gladys) Rutherford, and Bob (Nellie) Rutherford; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Thomas Carvel McWilliams who passed away April 15, 2017; one grandson, David Paul Morgan; and one daughter-in-law, Mendy McWilliams; an infant brother; sister, Madeline Akers; and sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Rutherford.

She was a member of the First Grace Brethren Church in Grafton.

Dot was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister to her family.
She was known for her ability to recite poetry from memory and her “love notes” which she gave to everyone. She was a homemaker. She loved her Lord, her family, and her beautiful flower gardens.

At Dorothy’s request, she will be cremated. There will be no funeral home visitation or memorial service.
