Obituary for Charles Luther Lantz

Charles Luther Lantz, age 83 of Thorn Lane, Grafton, WV passed away Saturday, May 16, 2020
at his residence surrounded by his beloved family.
He was born December 23, 1936 in Grafton, WV a son of the late Ralph James and Lena Mae (Huffman) Lantz.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret A. “Peggy” (Menear) Lantz whom he married on December 31, 1955 and they had one daughter, Debra Kay Kumar (Jamie) of Georgetown, KY; three sons, Charles L. “Butch” Lantz, Jr. (Diana) of Aylett, VA, Steven L. Lantz (Kimi) Grafton, and Eric V. Lantz (Tammy) of Grafton; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a special grandson, Kyle Lantz, who helps us when he can; one sister, Jane Bolin Weaver (David) of Camden, SC; one brother, James Ralph “Jimmy”Lanz (Patty) also of Camden, SC; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Charlie graduated from Grafton High School with the Class of 1954.
The he served in the US Navy for four years in the 50’s, serving on the USS Boston C.A.G. 1, the world’s first guided missle cruiser.
He served as a Dispatcher for the B&O Railroad in Grafton until he was sent to Jacksonville, FL, as Chief Dispatcher for Chessie RR and served there until he retired in 1999.
He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason of Taylor County. A member of Knights Templer, DeMolay Commandrey #11, Copestone Lodge #12, member of Taylor County Shrine Club, member of Scottish Rite, Valley of Clarksburg Orient of WV, and Internationial Shrine Club and a member of the VFW 3081.
He was a member of the Haymond United Methodist Church.

Charlie loved to hunt deer and turkey very much. He had lots of friends who never forgot him when he was disabled. They took time to visit and often took him out “to play”. “God bless them all”.

Private viewing will be held Friday, May 22nd at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton.
Interment will follow at the WV National Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
