Obituary for James Hillery Poling

James H. Poling, age 91, of Steele Street, Grafton, WV passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2016 at his residence.
He was born January 2, 1925 in Grafton, WV a son of the late Raymond Earl and Mable (Phillips) Poling.

He is survived by two daughters, Pamela J. Poling of Grafton and Susan W. Poling of Lithopolis, OH; one son, Richard H. “Rick” Poling and wife Peggy, of Angier, NC; three grandchildren, Nicole Murphy and husband Jonathan, of NC, Amanda Cook and husband, Tim of NC, and Hillary Newcomer and husband Ian, of Chicago, IL; and three great-grandchildren, Jasper, Aven, and Sterling.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Valjean (Kincade) Poling and one sister, Winifred Poling.

Jim graduated from Grafton High School with the Class of 1942 then served in the US Navy during WWII in the South Pacific.
He retired from the Chessie Railroad Company as Chief Clerk in the Engineering Department after 40 years.
He was a member of the Grafton Lions Club, Grafton Elks Lodge 308, Scout Master of Boy Scouts of America, Troop 52, the Myrtle Beach Travel Park Snowbirds, the Taylor County Boat Club, and the Tygart Lake Country Club.

The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home on Friday, January 8th from
4:00-8:00 pm and from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral on Saturday.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. David Spence officiating.
Interment will follow at the Woodsdale Memorial Park Cemetery in Grafton.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the Taylor County Honor Guard and the Navy Military Honor Guard.
