Obituary for Charles Edison Duckworth

Charles E. Duckworth, age 85 of Sandy Creek Road, Grafton, WV passed away Tuesday,
March 10, 2015 at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV.

He was born October 2, 1929 in Clemtown, WV a son of the late William and Rhoda (Cox) Duckworth.

He is survived by his fiance’, Margaret Roy of Grafton; one son, Charles William “Bill” Duckworth (Judy) of Grafton; two daughters, Doris Kidd (David) of Clarksburg and Patty Spencer and Frank Mounts of Ravenna, OH; five grandchildren, Jennifer Moran (Brent), Krista Perks (Bruce), Dina Stout (Roger), Jamie Brewster and companion, Marty Corrao, and Jeremy Spencer (Kristie); nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three step-daughters, Diane Lee, Darlene Nestor, and Debbie Knotts.also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two wives, Thelma Jean Duckworth Beall and Helen Marie Matlick Duckworth; one great- grandchild, Megan Perks; two brothers, Lee and Hoy Duckworth; and two sisters, Ruth Bolyard and Hazel McDonald.

He was a member of the Beulah Baptist Church and Maple Run Community Church. He was a charter member of the gospel group, The Overcomers, for 35 years and was a member of the Gideon’s International for several years.

Charlie owned and operated Duckworth Appliance for 64 years. He worked for the Grafton Fire Department for 17 years, having served as Fire Chief; worked for the Taylor County Board of Education as a bus driver; and worked for CSX for 12 years as a mechanic.

The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Friday,
March 13th from 2:00-8:00p.m. and from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour on Saturday.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015 with
Pastor Phil Nestor officiating.
Interment will follow at the Clemtown Cemetery in Barbour County.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made in Charlie’s memory to the Grafton Volunteer Fire Department Main Street, Grafton, WV 26354 or to the Maple Run Community Church 328 Yates Ave., Grafton, WV
